The Project Directorate Health of CAR KP held an event on 1st December 2015 at Basic Health Unit (BHU) Khurasan Camp regarding the World AIDs Day with a theme of getting to zero, meaning zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination against those with the disease, its related stigma, negative attitudes and abuse directed at people living with HIV/AIDS. The purpose behind this event was to remind the people to protect themselves from HIV by learning the facts about HIV transmission as well as to mark solidarity with the world by contributing to the ending of AIDS epidemic as part of the Sustainable Development Goal.
A large number of participants including health staff, AR district administrator, community members, teachers and students participated in the event. The participants emphasized the need for making the community aware of the facts relating to HIV/AIDS through knowledge sharing in order to protect themselves and others from the infection.
Later on an awareness rally was conducted to encourage unity in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. The banners and placards were inscribed with spreading the message of active awareness and sensitization about the HIV/AIDS.
It is pertinent to note that World AIDS Day is globally held on 1st December each year to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and show support and solidarity with people who are living with the AIDS epidemic. It was an important event being conducted by project Directorate Heath of CAR because it reminds the public and government that HIV has not gone away, there is still a vital need to increase awareness, fight prejudices and negative attitude that comes with the disease and improve education about HIV/AIDs.
The event ended with a firm resolve of the Project Directorate Health of CAR to keep the momentum going and let the people speak out and protect themselves from the spread of HIV/AIDs.
