After associated with Afghan Refugees Commissionerate for pretty 35 years, Mr. Waqar Maroof Director General (D.G) Afghan Refugees Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will retire on 16th October, 2019.
He is known as expert on Afghan Refugees and served the organization in various capacities. He is the first ever D.G who has the honor to get the top slot of Afghan Refugees organization. He joined the organization during 80's when the influx of refugees into Pakistan was on top as more than 3 million Afghan Refugees were accommodated in the province over more than 150 refugee camps.
He served as AC, DC Relief, Additional Commissioner (G), Additional Commissioner (HQ) and then D.G Afghan Refugees. He also remained as acting Commissioner of Afghan Commissionerate on many occasions.
He is also an international sportsmen and organizer as well. He represented National teams in the Asian games, International events and World Cup as sports official. He also remained as Associate Manager of Pakistan Hockey team. He is good writer and often published his comments on sports in various newspapers.
The Commissioner Afghan Refugees Mr. Muhammad Abbas Khan hosted a farewell dinner in honor of Waqar Maroof at PC Peshawar the other day. The UNHCR head & Local Staff, representatives of Ministry of SAFRON, Mr. Faridullah Jan Commissioner (HQ) from Chief Commissionerate Islamabad office, representatives of various NGO's and Commissionerate Project Directors were present on the occasion and gave away gifts to Mr. Waqar Maroof.
Mr. Muhammad Abbas Khan paid tribute to Mr. Waqar Maroof and said that his service for the cause of Afghan Refugees will be remembered for a longer period. He called him as dignified, decent and competent officer. The UNHCR head Mr. Dinesh Shrestha also praised the services of Mr. Waqar Maroof and termed him as great historian and helping person.
