The Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees was established in 1979 under the Federal Government Orders to facilitate Afghan Refugees who were crossing the borders and coming into Pakistan to find refuge due to war in Afghanistan. Currently as of 27 January 2022, a total of 834,381 registered POR card holder’s refugees and 307,647 documented ACC Card holders Afghans are living in KP, thus making 59% of the total POR card holders refugee’s population in Pakistan.
The Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees KP has the mandate for Camp Management/Administration and actively working to give refugees access to health and education services, provision of psycho-social support including skills training for livelihood opportunities, and helping refugees who decide voluntarily to return home. Currently CAR KP is providing basic services to refugees in 43 camps as well as urban areas for strengthening Social Cohesion and Wellbeing among Afghan Refugees and Host Communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As of 31 December 2021, a total of 712,275 individual refugees out of 834,381 POR card holders have been processed through DRIVE Exercise in CAR established 18 Facilitation Centres in KP for obtaining their own individual POR Smartcards. Starting from 15 March 2021, the verification of registered refugees have been conducted in partnership with NADRA through 18 statistic and 08 mobile (MRV) sites in KP.
